Supplier Finding
Part of Testing a dropshipping business
Defining a small product and supplier test
Specify the exact product, supplier route, budget and evidence needed for a controlled Australian dropshipping test.
Define the test before placing an order or promoting the product. Name the exact variant, proposed supplier, delivery destinations, budget, review date and questions the test must answer. A broad catalogue upload makes a mismatch harder to trace.
Write a one-offer brief
Record the supplier SKU and matching store variant, what one purchase includes, the proposed customer price and intended buyer.
Limit Australian destinations to routes you can check. Set a maximum spend and number of orders your team can investigate individually. No universal order count validates a supplier.
Keep product and supplier questions separate:
| Product question | Supplier question |
|---|---|
| Does the received item match the variant, contents and images? | Does the supplier accept the correct item, quantity and destination? |
| Can material product claims be supported? | Can the supplier confirm stock, charges and dispatch route? |
| Can the store respond to a customer problem? | Will it receive useful updates when an order changes or fails? |
A correct sample does not prove later orders will be accepted. Prompt acceptance does not verify the item’s specifications.
Product vs Supplier questions in a dropshipping test
- Product question
- Does the received item match the variant, contents and images?
- Product question
- Can material product claims be supported?
- Product question
- Can the store respond to a customer problem?
- Supplier question
- Does the supplier accept the correct item, quantity and destination?
- Supplier question
- Can the supplier confirm stock, charges and dispatch route?
- Supplier question
- Will it receive useful updates when an order changes or fails?
Set conditions for starting
Request details for the exact variant: specifications, package contents, stock information, dispatch location, handling process and charges to the selected destinations.
Check applicable Australian product safety requirements and bans. Hold the offer if a material safety question or decisive product detail remains unresolved.
Draft the listing and delivery information from evidence you have. Product images, descriptions and delivery claims need reasonable grounds.
The ACCC can require businesses to back up claims they make about their products or services. A general supplier page cannot establish a definite stock or delivery claim for this variant.
Australian regulatory compliance checks for dropshipping
- ACCC claim support requirement
- Businesses must back up product claims
- Product safety regulation
- All products must meet Australian safety standards
- Delivery and payment obligations
- Suppliers must deliver as agreed and handle payments correctly
Decide what the test will observe
For a controlled order, keep the request, supplier response, invoice, tracking events and item received together. Compare them with the brief.
If the test later includes customer orders, retain the information shown before payment and the outcome for each buyer.
Choose a gate before observing results. For instance, hold wider promotion if the supplier cannot identify an accepted order or the item received differs materially from the listing.
At review, mark each question confirmed for the observed case, unresolved or failed. Assign an owner to each gap and correct customer-facing information before another sale. One good parcel supports only a limited next step.
