Showing size and compatibility details clearly

Present verified dimensions, fit conditions and variant-specific information where shoppers can use them.

Put size and compatibility information where a buyer chooses an option or decides to add an item to the cart. Use verified measurements, say what was measured and state the conditions for fit. “One size” or “universal fit” may leave out the detail that determines whether the item is suitable.

Say what was measured

Give dimensions with units and identify whether they describe the outside, usable inside space, opening, cable length or another relevant part. If dimensions change by variant, show the correct figures for each option. Do not borrow a chart from a similar item. Resolve any difference between measurements of packaging and the product itself.

For apparel and wearable items, explain the sizing system and whether the figures are garment or body measurements. A label such as “M” gives limited help without measurements a buyer can compare. State a tolerance only when it has been supplied and verified.

Key Requirements for Size & Fit Disclosure

Include units
Yes – e.g., cm, mm, inches
Specify measurement type
Outside, inside, opening, cable length, etc.
State tolerance only if verified
Only where supplied and tested

Bound compatibility claims

Name the model, generation, connector, dimensions or other condition that determines fit. Confirm that any supported-model list applies to the exact SKU. Distinguish confirmed fit, confirmed non-fit and fit that has not been checked; omission from a supplier list does not by itself prove incompatibility.

For example, “for Model A, 2025 edition” is useful only if evidence supports that exact claim. “Fits most tablets” leaves the buyer to guess. If fit depends on an attachment, existing cover or available clearance, put that limit beside the claim.

The ACCC accepts reports about possible misleading or false claims and can require businesses to back up claims about their products or services. Put material fit exclusions where buyers can find them, rather than making them search a remote FAQ.

Show details for the selected option

A compact table can compare several variants when their measurements or compatibility differ. Use the same option names in the selector, table and images. If the storefront changes displayed details when a buyer selects an option, check that it shows the corresponding information on both narrow and wide screens.

Make sure each variant's buyer-facing details are shown clearly. Do not assume information saved in the admin appears on the product page.

Displaying Correct Variant Details

  1. Match selector names to table and imagesEnsure consistency across all views
  2. Update displayed details on selectionShow correct measurements per variant
  3. Test on narrow and wide screensConfirm visibility and clarity

Handle missing measurements

Request specifications for the exact item or measure an appropriate sample when a critical dimension or fit claim is missing. Until it is confirmed, state only what is known. Keep the source for each published detail so a later product change prompts a review.

Verify Product Fit Information Before Publishing

  • Request specs from supplierFor exact dimensions or fit conditions
  • Measure a sample if neededUse standard tools and record method
  • Keep source documentationLink to test reports or supplier data
