Rewriting supplier descriptions around accurate buyer information
Turn supplier copy into useful product descriptions by verifying claims, answering buying questions and keeping limitations visible.
Rewrite a supplier description by identifying what the buyer needs to choose the correct item. Keep verified specifications, remove unsupported claims and put limitations beside the benefits they qualify.
Check each claim before drafting
Split the supplier's copy into individual claims. For each one, record the exact SKU or variant, its supporting evidence and the wording you can use.
Separate observable details, such as material and included parts, from performance or compatibility claims that need stronger support. Ask the supplier about contradictions between catalogue text, specifications and package labels. Do not add measurements or other specifics until they are confirmed for the version being sold.
A short working record can track the proposed statement, evidence, affected variant and decision: use, qualify, ask or omit.
The ACCC accepts reports about possible misleading or false claims and can require businesses to back up claims they make about their products or services. Leaving out an important detail can still mislead a buyer.
Put buying questions in order
Open with a plain description of the product and its intended use. Then answer questions that determine suitability: dimensions, material, fit, package contents and relevant exclusions.
A short specification list helps buyers compare facts. Use prose to explain why a verified feature matters.
If a supplier calls a storage organiser “large”, replace the vague label with verified dimensions. Clarify whether they describe the outside or usable interior.
Edit benefits with their limits
Use the narrower claim, “fits the listed models”, rather than “fits all models”. Check superlatives, durability claims and material claims that may have been copied from another variant. If an accessory appears in a photo but is not included, clarify the package contents.
Review the page in the order a buyer sees it: title, first image, opening lines, option selector and purchase controls. That sequence should give the same impression as the full specification.
Update claims when the product changes
Keep the supplier's response and the basis for each published claim. Recheck affected sentences when an image, material, model number or package contents changes. Buyer questions can reveal missing information.
