Supplier Finding
Part of Dropshipping product compliance
Checking applicable product requirements before listing
Identify an exact dropshipped item, check Australian mandatory standards, bans and recalls, and record which requirements apply.
Before listing a dropshipped product for Australian customers, identify the exact item and check whether a mandatory standard or ban applies. Check recalls as a separate warning signal.
Search by the product’s features and intended use, then read the scope of each potentially relevant rule. A category name or a supplier’s claim that an item is “approved” cannot settle the question.
Define what will be sold
Record the supplier SKU, model, variant, components, accessories and intended use. Note features that could affect classification, such as a button or coin battery or an intended use by infants. These are reasons to investigate, not conclusions that a particular standard applies.
Ask whether an out-of-stock option might be replaced with another model. A substitute needs its own check. Record what is included in a kit, because its components may bring different requirements.
Search and read the current rules
Use the ACCC Product Safety mandatory standards and banned-products searches. Keep up to date with recalls through ACCC Product Safety email alerts. Try the product name, function and relevant features. A search result is a lead: open the product-specific page and, where needed, the current legal instrument.
For each plausible rule, establish whether its definition covers the supplied configuration, whether an exclusion applies and what requirements follow. Those may concern technical performance, contents, packaging, markings or buyer information. Record the source and date of the decision. Recheck it when the item or law changes.
A recall match needs investigation rather than an assumption that every similarly named product is affected. Conversely, a lack of search results is not a safety certificate. Australian product safety responsibilities also extend to goods without mandatory safety requirements.

Resolve uncertainty before moving on
Record each plausible rule as applies, does not apply, with reason, or unresolved. If the product description, age range or component list leaves its scope uncertain, obtain the missing detail or competent advice. Hold the listing while a material question remains open.
If a ban applies, do not offer the product for supply in Australia. Once the applicable requirements are clear, seek evidence for the exact item and check any required warnings. This requirement search identifies what must be assessed; it does not itself establish compliance.
